Super Jake was a healthy, vibrant, active little boy. That changed suddenly on March 4, 2004 when he was diagnosed with stage 4, fully metastasized neuroblastoma after a seemingly routine trip to the pediatrician for a belly-ache. After a horrific, year-long battle that included ten rounds of high-dose chemotherapy, four surgeries, weeks of radiation and three bone marrow transplants, followed by 100 days in isolation, Super Jake appeared to win his fight and was declared “NED”, or no evidence of disease, at the end of January 2005.

However, this insidious cancer soon returned. Though he resisted it with all he had, Jake soon lost his fight on May 27, 2005, having lived just 4 years, 6 months and 24 days – leaving behind a glowing and remarkable legacy. Those who knew Jake will forever remember him decked out day and night in super hero garb, from hats to sunglasses to underwear. Super Jake will always be our ultimate super hero.

A Letter from Jake’s Parents – Matt & Ann:

To our beautiful son Jake,

Jake, it’s so hard to believe that you’ve been in Heaven for almost 7 years. You were only 4 ½ then, and you would be 11 now. Wow! What would you look like…be like? Mommy and Daddy miss you more than we could ever write on this paper. You are our oldest child, our first son and we love you with all of our heart. So much has happened since you left us. Your sister Taylor is 8 and is such a special girl. You would be so proud of your “Babe”. Your two other siblings, who you never got to meet, Parker and Riley are growing like weeds and make us smile each day. We can see a little of you in all of them.

Jake, you’ve inspired so many people. In your name we have continued to fight for a cure for neuroblastoma. I know you’d be proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish so far and amazed at all the people that give their time and effort in supporting The Super Jake Foundation. We’re doing good things and we’re helping kids, but we have a long way to go. Mommy and Daddy wish we could hold you in our arms and protect you, but we know that you are looking down and protecting us. We love you so much Jake.

Love, Mom and Dad
