Research and Patient Grants
|
| The Super Jake Foundation raises money to fight pediatric cancer, specifically neuroblastoma, and awards grants for two purposes:
1) To fund and find a cure for neurobalstoma.
2) To provide assistance to families with children who suffer from pediatric cancer.
Since our inception in 2005, The Super Jake Foundation has raised more than $1.7 million for pediatric cancer research and support programs. Some of the funds have been given to Hospitals and Universities including; Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, Wisconsin Children's Hospital, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Texas A&M University and The University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital. The grants have funded research involving new compounds that aim to kill neuroblastoma cells, a new therapeutic approach by targeting blood vessels and a new study to determine why neurobalstoma is resistant to chemotherapeutic drugs.
Grants have also been given to families of children who suffer from pediatric cancer so they can be closer to their kids while receiving treatment. Kids like 10-year-old Michaela Thomas (the 2011 Grand Marshal for the Super Jake and Friends Heroes Dash) who have been fighting neurobalstoma since April of 2008 and 24 year old Anna O'Connor who was diagnosed with neurobalstoma at the age of 17 and has gone on the graduate with a masters in Clinical Psychology and continues to struggle with neurobalstoma.
