On this day, November 3, we remember and honor our hero, our inspiration, our namesake — our Super Jake. It’s incredibly hard to believe that he’s 24 today as time stopped for us in many ways the day he died. While we try to imagine who he would be today, our memories are frozen in time of a little boy with an amazing smile, a silly laugh and even sillier dance moves. Would he like sushi and crab legs like the expensive taste of his siblings? Sadly, we’ll never know so we celebrate his birthday with the little boy things we know he liked-Spider-Man fruit snacks, Cocoa Puffs and Reese’s Peanut Butter cereal.
At 24, would he be in graduate school or adulting with an adult job? Dating? Engaged? Again, we’ll never, ever know as he is— and always will be— forever four.
As we honor and remember our Super Jake on the day he brightened this world with his presence, we ask that you hug your loved ones, tell them you love them and don’t ever, ever leave things unsaid. Jake taught us so, so many important things—chief amongst them that life is too short to hold grudges or to not share your true feelings. And that life is for living and for loving. For silly laughs and for even sillier dance moves. And, that you’re never, ever too old for fruit snacks or Cocoa Puffs.
If your life is blessed with healthy children, we ask you to consider making a donation to The Super Jake Foundation to help us help sick kids get better in the hopes that they have more birthdays to celebrate.
Cheers to Jake. We love you and miss you all the days of our lives.
Happy Birthday!
